Growing From Seed

One way to start growing an Avocado Plant from seed is to soak them in water first. Clean all of the fruit off the seed(you can also remove the dark skin also with a knife, it makes the seed grow better in the long run, but this is optional), then insert Toothpicks into the Top of the Seed. The top of the seed is the pointy end. I usually like to insert 3 toothpicks in a triangular pattern. Then place the seed(with toothpicks sticking out) on top of a small cup filled with water. The toothpicks are used as supports to hold the pointy end of the seed above the water level, which prevents the sprout of the new avocado tree from being submerged in the water. Place the cup near a window or a sunny warm location. After 2-3 weeks, the seed will split in half, and roots will grow out of the bottom of the seed out toward the water. After this happens, then the stem and leaves of your new avocado tree will grow out of the top of the seed. Once this happens, plant the seed! Plant the tree deep enough so that the very tip of the seed is visible above the soil. Then watch it grow into a full fledged tree(or half fledged, or whatever you have room for)!
